'uisge beatha' - water of life
It is diffcult to establish the exact moment in history when both distilling and Scotch Malt Whisky were born. The earliest historical reference is The Scottish Exchequer Rolls of 1494 where it is noted that Friar John Corr bought "8 bolls of malt", enough barley to produce 1500 bottles. The first official reference to a distillery is made in the late 1600's. In an official document it is noted that a distillery existed called Ferintosh which was owned by Duncan Forbes of Culloden.
In the 21st century Scotch Malt Whisky remains the best selling spirit in the world. No wonder when you consider that this premium product is made from the best natural ingredients of Scotland using techniques and equipment which have been developed over hundreds of years.
No matter your palate there is a malt whisky out there for you, it is simply a matter of discovery. Where better to begin your journey than in Moray - Malt Whisky Country.
